SmartPosture - Being Smart about Weight

The earth’s gravitational pull does not treat us equally or fairly!

If you have a weight problem, such as a heavy midsection, gravity will pull you into a forward-slouching posture, whether you are sitting or standing. The weight of your visceral mass will make it difficult to sit or stand erect for a long period of time. Your shoulders and arms will also be attracted toward the center of the earth and contribute to that forward slouch or slump.

Conversely, it is medically axiomatic that having poor posture gives impetus to the gaining of weight:

1. Pain (neck, shoulders, back, knees, hips)

2. Fatigue

3. Poor Sleep

4. More time sitting/resting

5. Stiffness

6. Loss of will to exercise

7. Gradual decrease of fitness level, and lower metabolism.

All of the above give rise to a need to eat more to build or restore our energy levels to get through the day…more weight on the way!

So, wherever in the cycle you may find yourself, the relationship between posture and weight is not a pretty one!
